Frequently Asked Questions
What is a flange mounted motor (B5)?+
A B5 flange mounted motor has a large circular flange on the drive end for direct mounting to gearboxes, hydraulic pumps, and other driven equipment. It eliminates the need for base plates and provides precise structural alignment.
What is the difference between B5 and B14 flange mounting?+
B5 (flange mount) has a large flange with through-holes (non-threaded) — the flange diameter is larger than the motor body. B14 (face mount) has a smaller flange with threaded (tapped) holes. The most common ordering error is confusing B5 with B14.
Can a flange mounted motor be used vertically?+
Yes, flange mounted motors can be installed vertically (shaft up or shaft down). However, for larger motors in vertical orientation, reinforced bearings may be needed to handle the rotor's axial weight. Contact our engineers for guidance.
